This man has been in our lives for so long that three generations, from boomers to Gen Z, consider him one of the greatest actors mankind has ever seen.
As you can imagine, 50+ years of fame comes at a price. In his case, it’s a price that’s snack money to him. We’re talking about the dozens of aesthetic surgeries he had along the way, pretty much without anyone noticing. He is the man of subtle, little eyebrow lifts, facelifts and hair restoration procedures.
Stick around if you want to know whether he’s had any hair transplant procedures. How does he manage to maintain a perfect hairline at this age?
Let’s find out.
Sylvester Stallone’s Hair Loss
Stallone’s image is simply immortal. He isn’t one of us, he is on a different level in every way and this includes his hair. Rocky didn’t have any hair problems for the first decade of his life. His hair density and hairline held up amazingly well, thanks to his genes.
But a long life is a long run. It comes with the occasional stone that you encounter on the trail run. It’s also in our nature to age, cells die and our body finds it harder to replace them. So there came a time when even Stallone started to notice some changes on his skin and hairline.
Fifties is still very lucky considering that most men start noticing a change in their hairline in their twenties and thirties.
Remember Sylvester Stallone with long, flowing hair over his shoulders, giving him a rock star edge? That was Rambo dressed as Kenny-G. Honestly, long hair wouldn’t suit him now and it never really looked that great on Stallone.
Over the years, Sylvester Stallone has found what looks best on him; short hair. Not the buzz cut, just a shorter, put together, elegant hair style. He realized that short hair can also be versatile through styling and he’s doing just that.
Did Sylvester Stallone Have a Hair Transplant?
He not only had a hair transplant but Stallone’s bust was sculpted in every way. It’s almost like there’s a sculpture artist angel with a scalpel flying around him all the time, trimming off saggy chin, eye bags, lifting eyebrows…
But let’s take one cosmetic procedure at a time, so Stallone’s hair transplant virginity was taken in year 2000 when he was 54. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) wasn’t a thing back then, and everyone assumes it must have been a FUT, which refers to the strip surgery.
Go nowhere, we are just getting started. The year 2000 surgery addressed his hairline to make it look lower. And then, two years later in 2002 at age 56, Stallone goes under the knife for a surgical hairline advancement (a.k.a. forehead reduction/hairline lowering). That was a smart move because it’s one stone hits two birds with raised eyebrows as a bonus but calculated result.
If you thought that Arnie is the bionic man, think again.
Sylvester Stallone Before & After Hair Transplant
When you are Sylvester Stallone, you’re always out there and therefore can’t afford to leave the scene for a while to get a major operation done. Also, fans don’t appreciate major changes. Stallone, bigger than himself, would not make a bold move anyway. He is all about maintenance, nano bits and teeny touches.
The improvement is still noticeable when his before and after hair transplant photos are compared. But not as shocking as we would like it to be. What’s most noticeable is the white mark from the forehead reduction but only when he is slightly more tanned.
Which Technique Was Used for His Hair Transplant Operation?
In year 2000 which is when Stallone had his first (and technically only) hair transplant, FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) did not exist. This leaves us with the only other option; strip surgery. This means that a linear piece of your scalp from the back of your head gets skinned by the surgeon. S/he then cuts it into pieces and feeds it to your balding sections.
How Many Grafts Was Implanted?
The year 2000 FUT transplant was around 1500 grafts.
The 2002 one is a forehead reduction. What this means is that your hairline is cut and stretched to the front and then stitched to where you normally have your forehead, like stretching a swimming cap. Therefore, we can’t talk about graft count for the 2002 operation.
Where Did Sylvester Stallone Get His Hair Transplant?
There’s a Dr. Steven Hoefflin, who since forever has been the plastic surgeon of A-list celebs. He is an Associate Clinical Professor Emeritus of Plastic Surgery at UCLA Medical Center but sees celebrity clients at his private practice in California. Clues whisper it may have been him, or, another hair transplant specialist surgeon recommended by him.
Not our cup of tea anyway. Us, earthlings on normal wages brew the same quality Darjeeling for much, much less.

Does Sylvester Stallone Wear a Hair Piece?
Not necessarily.
Don’t get mixed up with movie-set hair and make-up. In movies, everything is allowed but Stallone does not wear a hair piece in his daily life. It’s the results of the hair transplant he had, as explained earlier. What you see is his very own, home grown, bio, organic hair.
